Panels not producing / production drop
Solar production dropped? We find the cause and restore output.
A sudden or gradual production drop costs money every sunny day. OnForce Solar pinpoints whether the problem is a string, a module, the inverter, shading, soiling, or the meter — then fixes it.
Commercial systems in New York, New Jersey & Connecticut. Servicing solar since 2008.
Signs of a production problem
- Monthly kWh well below last year or the expected estimate
- Utility bill jumped while the system looks fine
- One or more strings reading zero or low
- Production cut off at the same time every day
- Visible damage, cracked glass, or burn marks on modules
- Heavy dirt, debris, snow, or new shading on the array
What usually causes it
Blown fuses, failed connectors, or damaged wiring taking whole strings out of service.
Hot spots, cracked cells, storm damage, or PID reducing output across the array.
Inverters limiting output due to heat, grid voltage, or partial faults.
Dirt, bird droppings, pollen, or new tree growth and rooftop equipment blocking sunlight.
How we restore production
- 1Share your monitoring access or production numbers — we compare actual vs. expected output.
- 2On site, we test strings (IV curve, voltage, current) and run thermal imaging to find failing modules.
- 3We repair wiring, replace fuses, connectors, or modules, and clean the array when needed.
- 4Output is verified against expectation and documented in a report.
Common questions
How much production loss is normal?
Panels lose roughly 0.5% per year. A drop of 10% or more compared with last year usually means something needs fixing.
Can you tell what's wrong before visiting?
Often yes. With monitoring access we can usually narrow it to an inverter, a string, or a site-wide issue before dispatch.
Do you replace damaged panels?
Yes, including sourcing compatible modules for older systems.
